As a fan of the Yoshi series, I won’t hate it forever, but the untapped potential of Final Fantasy XVI—especially in its RPG elements—is disappointing. Veterans may be disappointed, while newcomers may be thrilled. The graphics are excellent. The combat system is debatable. The sound is outstanding, and the battles between the Eikons are phenomenal. Hopefully, future installments will learn from these mistakes and follow in the footsteps of the excellent Final Fantasy VII: Remake, which seamlessly blends its genres.

Final Fantasy XVI from Square Enix still brings a wonderful story, well-defined characters, and a fantastic adventure on the Xbox Series X. It might not deliver the same graphical ‘wow’ that the other releases do, but it’s still a worthy game to take on for 50+ hours.
Final Fantasy XVI represents another step toward the event horizon of the branding's identity utterly collapsing. It isn't a bad game, but it fails to connect on a deeper and emotional level than what its past successes achieved. This is largely due to a weak supporting cast that lacks presence and a melodramatic lead who rarely gets chances to have any fun. For all of its faults, Final Fantasy XV attempted to throw whatever it could at players to create a varied experience. Final Fantasy XVI has a few tricks, and they're action and cinematic set-pieces. After about 20 hours, it becomes tiring, and after that the next 20 hours become utterly mind-numbing. It wouldn't be so bad if the fighting were deeper and the level design more fun.
Overall Final Fantasy XVI is one of the best entries in the series.
Final Fantasy XVI is a bold and visually stunning work. We could say that it redefines what Final Fantasy can be in the coming years. Although it moves away from many of the classic JRPG mechanics.

Final Fantasy XVI is a truly worthy installment of Square Enix's most successful franchise, with a main story that has me hooked from the first moment. It has characters that you care about and with good development, in addition to being technically good despite the problems on Xbox Series X / S, it surpasses Final Fantasy XV and its technical problems in all aspects, so if you have been a fan of the saga, we are facing one of the best installments of recent years.

It pains me to say, but Xbox definitely is not the best place to play Final Fantasy XVI. It’s still the great JRPG it was at launch on PS5, but the graphics have taken a hit and I miss the DualSense more than I expected. For fans who only own an Xbox, this is amazing and finally brings all mainline titles from the series to a single console.

Looking past the toned back RPG elements, Final Fantasy XVI is a solid entry in the series, that also might not be for everyone. It has fun and addicting combat, the Eikon fights will leave a lasting impression, the story is interesting enough to keep driving you forward, and the New Game Plus mode gives players a reason to come back for more. Even so, some fans might have a hard time looking past it being an action game, and that will ultimately decide if it is worth playing or not. Still, it is a game I recommend checking out if you are interested at all, as there is in fact a lot to love here.
Final Fantasy XVI is phenomenal if you enjoy action RPGs, especially if you appreciate well-written stories that build upon themselves, teeming with memorable characters and poignantly emotional moments.
Final Fantasy XVI may be imperfect as an RPG, but as an audiovisual epic, it pushes the medium toward a future where games can tell stories cinema and television could never contain.

Despite the lack of heavy RPG elements, Final Fantasy XVI is a fine enough addition to the series. In the future, however, Square Enix should focus even more on making sure that its computer ports can be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

While FFXVI is a fully functioning PC Port without any glaring technical issues, it is a very basic one that misses a lot of the features that PC gamers have come to expect. It is hard not to be disappointed with what could have been a technical showpiece but is instead just acceptable
Borrowing a lot from its Western counterparts, Final Fantasy XVI moves away from the series' classical approach to RPG and edges toward action. It seems that the series' future will also move in the same direction. If you judge FFXVI on its own merits, you will have a great time with it, but if you rather cling to the past and expect more of the same, you might be disappointed.

Now in its definitive version on PC, Clive Rosfield's journey gains a new chapter that even the occasional slip-ups in the adaptation work can't compromise.
