The best boomer shooter I've played in a long time, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is weapons-grade catnip for genre fans and Warhammer 40,000 fans alike. Indeed in retrospect, crafting a retro style FPS in the Warhammer 40,000 universe feels like something we should have had long before now - so perfect is the fit of form and function. In the Warhammer 40,000 universe there is only war. Apparently there are also supremely great shooters too. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a riotously violent and thoroughly entertaining shooter that everybody needs to play.
It may be confusing to navigate, but Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun has definitely got it where it counts. When you aren't busy trying to remember how many times you've been through a certain room, the comically violent combat sequences offer up consistently thrilling engagements with just the right amount of difficulty. We wish that it controlled a little better, but it's impossible to deny that Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is just a plain fun game to tear through. We'd recommend this to anyone looking for a solid boomer shooter to add to their library; it's not a game that you need to rush out and play right away, but you'll probably be satisfied once you get around to it.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is an inspired production, fully consistent with the intention of bringing the brutality of the imagery of the miniatures game into a boomer shooter all lead and blood.

It is true that a shooter of these characteristics has its own well-known limitations and a structure that does not invent the wheel, but as I often say in my texts, there are times when more is not always better. And in their own limitations, the good folks at Auroch Digital have created a little gem.

I didn’t enjoy Boltgun that much. However, I’m sure it will appeal to gamers who don’t pay a lot of attention to gameplay balance or difficulty level. And if they are fans of the W40K universe and old-school first-person shooters, they will most likely love it.

A solid challenging old-school style FPS
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a decent entry into the retro-shooter genre that will appeal most to fans of the WH40k universe, while everyone else should probably choose a different, better game to fulfill their classic action itch.
Boltgun tooks a lot of inspiration from old-time classic like Doom, Quake and Build-engine games, but lacks their top-notch gameplay rhythm.
