[REDACTED] Reviews
[REDACTED] takes the world of Callisto Protocol into a brand-new genre for an experience that roguelike fans will surely spend hours conquering.
Unfortunately for Redacted, probably the biggest thing working against it is its release date. The game comes out on October 31, right on the heels of Hades 2's Olympic update. However, should you get bored of Melinoe, Redacted is a great substitute with fresh ideas.
With a colorful art style and roguelike hooks, Redacted has little in common with The Callisto Protocol besides a shared setting, yet it's a similarly uneven experience.
Redacted may borrow heavily from Hades, but it has enough of its own personality to stand out in an increasingly crowded genre.
Redacted ain't no lazy Hades clone, instead it offers an experience that is unique amongst the crowded Roguelike genre. Put up with the steep difficulty and slow progress and you'll experience an immensely enjoyable game, one that is cram-packed with slick combat and brilliant characters.
[REDACTED] is a great Hades-inspired roguelite that wants to introduce new elements to stand out from the crowd and ends up throwing a spanner in the works on its own. Forget the race for freedom against rivals, and we will have an excellent dungeon crawler on our hands with a bunch of weapons and uniforms to unlock to tear zombies, monsters and bosses apart in an increasingly brutal way. Let's try to rely on the clashes with the other fugitives, and we will be disappointed. The gameplay formula is still relatively fresh, the artistic sector is excellent, so let's launch into this new ordeal without caring too much about originality.

Redacted has all the addictive core elements of an enjoyable roguelike: a good variety of weapons, abilities, and synergies with a well-polished presentation. The racing rivals and random events keep runs feeling fresh, although its comparatively short runtime and relatively lackluster melee combat prevent it from being one of the greatest.
[REDACTED] won't be a cult classic, but it can quench your thirst before a new portion of Melinoe's adventures.

A fairly standard roguelike, [REDACTED] is nevertheless a fun, if brief, return to Black Iron Prison. Just with a much more colourful, flashy aesthetic!
Fun and invigorating, [REDACTED] is a good bet on the roguelite formula and delivers a recommended game for anyone looking for something like this. It may not be as refined or with excess content to last for a long time, but it's a good bet on style.

While far from Krafton's AAA gaming ambitions, [Redacted] shows a lot of potential for the company to release a high-end product.

The inspiration from Hades is more than clear, but unlike Supergiant's title, Redacted doesn't seem to have the same depth and ultimately the same feel.

[REDACTED] is a successful roguelike game that takes us back to the Jupiter moon Callisto. The game's unique, comic-like look is particularly impressive, providing a fresh and entertaining change of pace.

In all honesty, [REDACTED] has really surprised me. I was incredibly sad after finishing Callisto Protocol, whereby I was left wanting more of the carefully and beautifully crafted world. [REDACTED] turned that sadness into room by room run addiction. I never knew I needed to return to the Black Iron Prison in a completely different way than first intended. With everything Striking Distance Studios have brought forward this time round, [REDACTED] has made it’s mark and sits in my top games for 2024. I SALUTE YOU SOLDIER! I award [REDACTED] the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.
Only after a few hours of play and probably unsuccessful runs through the Black Iron Prison does "[Redacted]" really begin. These first hours are tough and often even quite boring as you constantly expand your arsenal of weapons and improve your stats. If you make it over this barrier, you get a solid twin-stick shooter in a fun roguelite package. Unfortunately, the melee combat doesn't feel good at all. "[Redacted]" is not a new star in the sky for the genre and would work as well as it does in the end even without the relationship to "The Callisto Protocol". If you need more in a fairly saturated genre, you might make a much worse choice than with "[Redacted]".

[REDACTED] is an addictive game. The inspiration taken from Hades has not annihilated the personality of the Striking Distance Studio production, which is fun and well characterised. The only pity is a not too thorough balancing of the weapons and a not impeccable level design, which do not allow it to reach the Olympus of roguelites.

[REDACTED] is a great addition to the world of action roguelikes, delivering an immersive, strategic, and highly personalized experience set in the world of The Callisto Protocol.

[REDACTED] stands out for its intense action, stylish visuals, and indirect rivalry mechanics, which add tension and unpredictability to the matches. The variety of weapons and abilities, combined with vibrant cel shading, create an immersive experience, and the universe comes to life with eccentric characters and interactive scenarios that enrich each attempt to escape. However, balance and progression issues affect the long-term fun: the grind required to progress and the slow pace of unlocks can be frustrating. At least the diversity of situations and content helps to mitigate these issues.

[REDACTED] is a game the developers should be proud of. The combat is fast-paced and smooth, and the variety of upgrades keeps the gameplay fresh, even though the world is quite repetitive. While I wish the game had more content so it lasted longer, it is a budget title and priced accordingly. I wouldn't say no to some DLC that added a set of biomes to play through, though that might be difficult with the game closely following The Callisto Protocol's world. As far as how [REDACTED] plays on the Steam Deck, I can't offer any criticisms here. The game is basically flawless. The controls work well, the graphics can be run on their highest settings, and we can keep a modest TDP limit, all of which make [REDACTED] a great game to play on your Steam Deck.
Striking Distance Studios created a "sci-fi Hades" with [Redacted] that offers fast-paced, entertaining gameplay. For a solid price under 25€, this offer is a great game for Roguelike and Twinstick Shooter fans alike.
