Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered is a fantastic remaster of some of the classic Tomb Raider titles that makes them as playable as possible. Aspyr's enhancements have made these titles much better looking and easier to enjoy, with great new features like the wonderful photo mode and fly-by camera for cinematic shots. The original games do have some quality-of-life features to make them more playable, but there are still some issues with controls and speed that still keep them feeling more like a slog for newcomers. Still, this is easily the best way to enjoy the games currently, and they can be a ton of fun if you have the patience. They all run especially well on the Steam Deck too. The Last Revelation and Chronicles run better than The Angel of Darkness, but they're all a joy to play on the go with solid battery life and an easy 60 or 90 FPS.

Was this new collection really needed? That's what we all wondered a little bit at the time of the announcement, and the answer could have been in Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics' search for a second chance for the most forgotten Tomb Raider games, including the very bad The Angel of Darkness. The work done by the now experienced remastered team is good, especially on the already good The Last Revelation and Chronicles, but at the same time all three games still show their inferiority to their predecessors. In addition, as much as it has been polished as much as possible, The Angel of Darkness proves to be a title riddled with difficulties and naivety, which not even Aspyr has managed to save.

While the games included aren’t the prime examples of what made Tomb Raider so good in the first place, they are still very much worth owning and experiencing.

Overall, Aspyr has done a really good job of remastering Tomb Raider 4-6. The fact that you can switch between old and new graphics with the flick of a button is a feature I’d like in every remaster of a classic 90s’ game. The feature of saving at any time is also a good addition. It’s almost like having save states. Since these games are old and established, giving the player freedom over how these games are played is a positive feature.

Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is a lovingly crafted package that helps revive some of Lara Croft’s more unique and intriguing adventures. The visual upgrades, smoother frame rates, and modern features help make this the most accessible and polished way to revisit these adventures, and whilst the titles themselves are a little less impressive than those found across the original trilogy (especially Angel of Darkness), they’re still a lot of fun to play. The collection manages to offer a nostalgic trip that’s certainly worth taking, and whilst the games themselves might be flawed, there’s still something special about re-visiting Lara Croft’s earlier escapades in a freshly revamped form.

Tomb Raider IV-V-VI Remastered is a good compilation of games that maintains an interesting combination of puzzles, action and platforms. If you liked the previous trilogy, this one continues it and adds some improvements.
