Shotgun Cop Man Reviews
Take an indie platformer like VVVVVV or Downwell and up the ultraviolence, that's Shotgun Cop Man.
Shotgun Cop Man is an action platformer nostalgia trip that hits just about every shot it fires, from its refined movement to its distinct level design.
Shotgun Cop Man can easily stand toe-to-toe with the likes of Super Meat Boy and Celeste in terms of raw, precise gameplay. Using your guns for both traversal and combat with a simple but effective twin-stick setup is a stroke of genius, and it makes for an effortlessly rewarding experience that you'll want to play again and again. While not overly difficult in itself, nailing the optional objectives is key to achieving 100% completion, and it's here that you'll find challenge and satisfaction in equal measure. It's funny, it's violent, and it's polished – and we suspect it will go down as a cult classic.
Shotgun Cop Man is fast-paced and fluid platforming bliss that evolves mechanically through the game, but it lacks any kind of visual variety to help make the hundred or so levels stand out from each other in any meaningful way.
It was a fun game about a bald man who shoots guns at the floor to do Mario Things while Satan says mean words at him from a distance. It is never more or less than exactly that. I had a great time for around three or four hours, and will probably never think about it again. But that’s okay, because I don’t think Shotgun Cop Man intended to reach beyond that outcome. Shotgun Cop Man simply is, and I respect that about him.
The gameplay blends creative movement and tense combat, with additional challenges to eliminate all enemies, avoid damage and complete the levels within time limits. Minimalist graphics, an adrenaline-filled soundtrack and an integrated level editor complete an experience designed for fans of technical and hardcore platformers.

Shotgun Cop Man delivers fast-paced, precision platforming that feels excellent once it has its hooks in you. It gets straight to the good stuff and strikes a great balance between approachability and difficulty. A few of the mechanics stand out as weaker than the rest, but the level design brings them together to create some really fun and challenging experiences.
From the makers of My Friend Pedro comes Shotgun Cop Man-an intense 2D action shooter where your guns are your jumps as well as your attacks!
Shotgun Cop Man is just dumb fun, with a short yet excellently done campaign that feels satisfying to beat. What else do you need to have a good time?
Shotgun Cop Man is a tightly designed, endlessly replayable platformer that stands out in a crowded genre. Its weapon-based movement system is more than a gimmick, it’s the foundation for one of the most engaging and rewarding platforming experiences in years.
I enjoyed my time with Shotgun Cop Man but, where I couldn’t stop replaying My Friend Pedro, I don’t see myself returning to this one. Shotgun Cop Man is frantic, fun, and funny. It is also repetitive, irritating, and doesn’t separate itself from the pack. What it does have is enough charm and sharp gameplay to make itself a worthy pickup.
Shotgun Cop Man is a simple product, and it doesn't pretend to be anything more than that. It had an idea of movement in a platform game and executed it very well. It runs well, which doesn't interrupt the player's focus during the trajectory, and it's not huge, being able to be played both in short bursts due to the tiny size of the levels, or in long marathons, since an entire world has a large collection until it is completed. The game may not have exactly impressed, and I don't mean that in the sense that it's average, because it always seemed competent and fun, but it shows what it is right away, without any secrets. It throws it right in the player's face that it's like a good violent shooting and action movie.

Shotgun Cop Man is not something I expected to enjoy as much as I did, yet nearly 150 levels proved me wrong. The moment-to-moment gameplay is so well done, and having to plan my moves while dodging and fighting demons is a blast.
Shotgun Cop Man costs six cents per stage and at this value proposition, it's hard to be upset at its shortcomings. Shotgun Cop Man is exactly what you would expect to get if you put Devolver Digital in a blender with Deadtoast, the studio behind 2019’s My Friend Pedro. The platforming is satisfying, addicting and refined, but best enjoyed in short sessions. The bosses are unique, but there is too much monotony in between. There are 162 stages, but there is a lack of variety across many facets of the experience. For every pro, there is a con, but Shotgun Cop Man isn’t here to win awards. He’s here to kick ass and take names on his quest to arrest satan in the bowels of Hell. Shotgun Cop Man is aware of what it is and at this price point is precisely what you expect and need it to be: A fast, frenetic action game with refined gameplay. Unfortunately, it's a little shallow on depth, variety and isn't the follow up to My Friend Pedro that was expected.
Shotgun Cop Man is an absolute blast, thanks to its exquisite locomotion, varied stages and a nice amount of difficulty for those seeking a challenge.
