Control Resonant Reviews
Control Resonant is a game where its awe-inspiring visual experience outweighs its gameplay shortcomings — if you can stomach the repetitive combat, confusing navigation, and dense walls of text, it delivers an even more satisfying experience than its predecessor.

Control Resonant is bigger and better than its predecessor, shedding much of the original’s clutter in favor of a clearer vision, renewed art direction, greater ambition and a remarkable ability to celebrate art both within and beyond video games.

CONTROL Resonant shows us that Remedy is definitely still at the top of its game and can tackle any genre. CONTROL Resonant delivers a great story wrapped in phenomenal level design and a combat system that provides hours of fantastic gameplay. Games from Remedy Entertainment are one of a kind, and CONTROL Resonant demonstrates this perfectly.

CONTROL: Resonant is the kind of sequel that swings for the fences, and for the most part, it lands. Remedy has taken everything that made the original Control special and expanded it into something bigger and stranger, filled with otherworldly level design that feels pulled straight from an alien’s mind and brought to life. Dylan’s melee-based combat is also a welcome shift, creating satisfying encounters that complement its semi-open world with focused, fast-paced action. Still, many things need addressing, from performance issues during crowded encounters to a deeply underwhelming ending that leaves more questions than answers. Overall, these faults don’t take much away from the experience, which is packed with Remedy’s visual and audio splendor. With just a few imperfections, it remains an otherwise mesmerizing science-fiction story that breaks the traditional Pattern of what videogames can be.
Control: Resonant expands on its predecessor with an ambitious open world, fast-paced melee combat, and deeper progression. Dylan’s supernatural abilities and challenging boss fights deliver an engaging experience, although labyrinthine level design and some empty areas affect exploration. Despite these flaws, Remedy offers an exciting paranormal adventure that builds on the original’s strengths.

CONTROL Resonant takes a real risk by throwing out a formula that worked for Remedy and building something almost unrecognizable in its place. It comes out the other side as one of the studio's strongest overall efforts, even with a navigation system that fights you more than it should.
Overall, Control Resonant takes everything that made the original special and elevates it with incredible melee combat, breathtaking artistic visual design, and a deeply emotional story. While the early difficulty curve and less traditional RPG systems might not suit everyone, the overall experience is nothing short of extraordinary.
It is stranger, faster, more physical and considerably more willing to throw its toys out of the pram. Most importantly, it feels like Remedy actually had something to say with the sequel beyond “here’s more Control.” It’s a sequel is that’s willing to take a big, weird swing, and it mostly connects.
After nearly 30 hours, I can say I really enjoyed my time with Control Resonant, but I feel it has one too many superfluous elements that only serve to unnecessarily complicate a gameplay that was already strong. It is a very good game and worth playing, but when I eventually want to dive back into Remedy's connected universe, I think I’d prefer to replay Alan Wake 2 or the original Control rather than this one.

There is a lot to like about Control Resonant. I genuinely respect how Remedy opted to make this sequel the yang to Control’s yin. It’s more aggressive, bigger in scope, technically astounding, and features some of the best combat I’ve experienced in years. This isn’t a sequel content with simply replicating its successful predecessor, it wants to push the franchise and its lore into entirely new territory. That said, its open world structure, slightly more generic setting, and less interesting protagonist make it feel less intriguing and innovative than Control.
Control Resonant boldly reinvents the original formula with exhilarating melee combat, a compelling new lead and one of Remedy's most imaginative worlds yet. A few uneven bosses and late-game rough edges can't diminish an unforgettable paranormal adventure.

Control Resonant is one of the year’s defining experiences and a genuine Game of the Year contender.
A sequel that expands the world of Control through Dylan's story and fast-paced melee combat. Confusing navigation and repetitive puzzles can be tiring at times, but its bizarre, twisted vision of Manhattan can only be described as a work of art.

Remedy Entertainment has created another absolute triumph with Control Resonant. By transporting their paranatural madness into a mind-bending, gravity-defying New York and delivering a razor-sharp brawler combat system, they have exceeded expectations on every front. Minor performance hiccups aside, this is an astonishing achievement and another definitive masterpiece from one of the most creative studios in gaming.
Despite some big bugs, that doesn’t stop the momentum that Remedy Entertainment has built with Control Resonant.
f you enjoyed CONTROL, absolutely. CONTROL Resonant successfully expands the original game’s world while giving Dylan his own identity, combat style and story.
Even with [...] boss fights that feel normal by Remedy's standards and its other foibles, it doesn't change the fact that CONTROL Resonant is doing its prequel incredibly proud. Kudos to the devs for breaking tradition and getting out of their comfort zone, taking chances and winning big with a helluva paranormal metroidvania title with a clear emphasis on combo-heavy melee-style action.
I couldn’t recommend Control: Resonant enough, especially to those coming off either Alan Wake 2 or Control. This sequel captures Remedy’s unique specialty in the video game space, as there’s no other studio that can deliver a sci-fi world like Control.
CONTROL Resonant was an excellent game in my opinion. There wasn’t really anything I can complain about, but I don’t feel like it’s perfect, so I would hesitate to give it a 10/10, but know that I did contemplate the idea.
Control Resonant is unmistakably a Remedy game - bizarre, ambitious, at times frustrating and often inventive.
