It won't blow you away – especially not in 2020 – but it's worth adding to your VR library the next time you want to let off some steam. Invite a few pals over.

Gorn is exactly what it looks like; it's silly, over the top, and hilarious. This isn't a serious melee combat game, but if you're after comic ultra-violence, then this is the best option on PSVR. With a little more content, some gameplay beyond battling waves of enemies, and a touch more polish, this would be an easy recommendation, but it's still worth a shot if you want a bit of a giggle.

Simply put, GORN is among the very best VR games out there.

GORN is a limited gameplaying experience. There is an undeniable visceral thrill in beating your opponents to a pulp, but it’s a thrill that doesn’t last long. There’s also no denying that sometimes you just want to play a game that is mindless fun. GORN certainly fills such a need. It’s just a shame that this port doesn’t elevate the original game in any way.

Gorn puts you in the boots of a powerful gladiator and gives you everything you need to let loose on hapless opponents. When it's at its best, this is a satisfying PSVR experience, offering up truly physical and cathartic action with over-the-top violence. Sadly, it does run into some problems, such as iffy movement and motion tracking problems. There's plenty to like about this OTT title, but without these sticking points it could've been a real PSVR champion.

GORN is a bloody good time, arriving right at the moment when we need it most. Some strategy is hidden beneath all of the gore and carnage, though you might find yourself just dipping into GORN to bash some heads for a few minutes. While there are some technical limitations brought on by the PlayStation Camera, GORN works pretty well on the PSVR. As both a workout and a psychological enema, GORN succeeds wildly.

Every component of GORN, from the huge assortment of weaponry to the strange physics, comes together to deliver exactly what is promised: bloody, melee carnage. It’s a no-frills experience that doesn’t concern itself with anything extraneous, like moral questions or a narrative.

GORN makes a gory, bloodfest type of fighting into a fun pastime that can also serve as a fairly good cardio workout. While there are buckets of blood and dismembered body parts flying around, it is designed in a way to make what would normally be prohibitively gross into something so fun that you will find yourself laughing at the incredible mayhem that surrounds you.

If Gorn was released on PlayStation VR 3 years ago, it could have been considered a good game. But water has flowed under the bridge, the PSVR now a catalog of solid games and Gorn looks very pale next to others. A fun concept doesn't make a big game...

GORN is a great popcorn video game. Nothing about it screams game-changer, but it's so much fun to play you might spend more time with it than other more refined experiences. With plenty of weapons to decimate your enemies with and plenty of them to pulverize, GORN is certainly an enjoyable and outrageous game.

Gorn is, simply put, one of the best games VR has to offer. The combat is hilariously brutal, and the endless possibilities will keep you coming back for more. I punched my wall and was happy about it. This is a must-have for any VR owner.

GORN may not be the longest, most refined game in the world but it certainly has a place in everyone's PSVR collection. Its a place to unwind, a place to have fun and its bloody brilliant. With its wonky physics and bits of enemies flying everywhere it is great laugh and fun throughout.

Admittedly, these wouldn't be my first choices in mobility and VR viewing controls, but in the absence of analogue sticks, it's perfectly functional.

Gorn is a ridiculous, violent, VR combat game with a terrific premise, yet somewhat lacking in substance.

Gorn is challenging, horrifying, hilarious, and a genuine joy to play. It manages to be brilliant in both short bursts and long sessions, and there are so many little challenges to complete and weapons to master that you'll never really be able to put it down for good.

Gorn is certainly one of the best titles available for PlayStation VR. Despite having a simple premise, it delivers fun gameplay with a good level of depth. At the end of each confrontation against your enemies, it will be impossible not to shout the iconic phrase said by Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator: "are you entertained?".

Gorn has aged reasonably well. Sure, there are bigger and prettier games available, but few of them match the almost cathartic and brutal fun that Gorn so innately delivers. It works well enough in PSVR to warrant a purchase if you're OK with its limitations. The controls are frustrating and more limited on PSVR than elsewhere, and visuals are clearly a step down, but the core experience is still intact. If that fits the bill for you, it can be a blast, so ready your fist and blade and enter the arena. Just don't lose a limb.

Still though, for a mindless gladiator brawler with lots of cartoon violence it can be a lot of fun. You just may need to be aware of what all it has before you go in expecting too much.
