The beautiful visuals, fun battle arenas, and easy-to-grasp fighting gameplay of Dead or Alive 6 make for a brawler that packs a punch.

Even without casual matchmaking, Team Ninja delivered an incredibly entertaining tournament until the weight of progression started to sink in.

There’s a lot of things about the series, and DoA6 specifically, that aren’t all that endearing to me, but underneath that noise there is an impressive fighting game with some deeper mechanics than it appears at first look.

Dead or Alive 6 serves up great fighting mechanics, solid offline mode variety, and looks good while doing it. If you're a fan of the series, it's well worth checking out, even as this latest entry stumbles in the online arenas and the disappointing approach to customization.

I really want to like this game more. NiCO's a fun new character to add to the mix, and the DOA Quest mode is a lot of fun. But the middling story, and ridiculous costume grind kind of shows how little new content there is to this game. Maybe down the line it'll be a fully fleshed out experience, but at least it's off to a better start than Street Fighter 5.

The Dead Or Alive series aside from offering a competent fighting game in its own right does draw fans interested in the physics and revealing costumes. You can’t steer away from this fact too much. In this regard, the new systems kind of go against this, making determined players either spend extra cash or work harder to net the rewards. This does feel like fleecing the fan base somewhat which is a shame. Still, if additional outfits and extra modes (such as the gravure scenes) aren’t of interest, then the core package will no doubt fulfill the need. Dead Or Alive 6 is a welcome addition to the series but feels somewhat of a step backwards from the feature complete Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round.

Dead or Alive 6 comes back keeping all the simple ideas that made it a great fighting game since ever. It’s not a mainstream title, but more a videogame for niche players. Maybe the small improvements will let a bit down the nostalgic fans of the saga, but this Dead or Alive is perfect for those who wants to get entertainment and fun without too high expectations. The moveset is unchanged, and that’s because Team Ninja still prefer to focus the gameplay more on timing than on strategy.

When it comes to fighting games, there’s no doubt that Dead or Alive 6 is in a league of its own and it has a lot to offer from start to finish. Whether you are an offline player and want to dive into the campaign or DoA Quest modes, there’s a lot there to enjoy, and that doesn’t change for those who want to take the fight online and show the world who the best of the best actually is.

Despite a robust and fun fighting system, a lack of online functions and stripped down modes take the shine off Dead or Alive 6.

In fewer words, DOA 6 is the "DOA-est" entry in the franchise so far, and the new tutorial system is perfect for introducing new generations of players to the game.

Dead or Alive 6 is a solid fighting game that is more dynamic and engaging than past installments even though it doesn't really innovate, but the content isn't as rich as some other fighting games.

Dead or Alive 6 maintains its status as a solid and surprisingly deep fighting game that gets hidden underneath the readily apparent fan service. The tweaks to the fighting system only improve the accessibility while not hurting the more advanced players. The 24-character roster is refreshed, but the customization feels more limited. The same can be said for the levels and graphics, which are fine but lack any signs of ambition. However, DoA6 is still a good, solid purchase for fighting game fans, although it may not be the big leap that series fans would've wanted.

Are there areas where Dead Or Alive 6 could use some polish? Yes. But at least it doesn’t feel like a continuation of DOA5, and still moves forwards in some respectable regards.

An improvement over its predecessors, Dead or Alive 6 is an accomplished fighting game with some neat new tricks and cool cinematic touches up its sleeve. Also, boobs.

It may have felt like an eternity since the last proper Dead or Alive title, but the sixth installment picks up right where the last left off and makes substantial steps towards propelling the brand forward. Enhanced approachability and single player modes help build upon a stable of already solid content.

Team NINJA demonstrates once again that they're one of the best studios out there at creating fast paced, rock-solid and extremely satisfying combat systems. Dead or Alive 6 is also the best entry for newcomers, but lacks some content and evolution.

DoA 6 proves there's plenty of depth to this fighter beneath its skimpy outfits, but its story mode is disjointed and its multiplayer features are currently bare.

Team Ninja has added some amazing new mechanisms to the fighting system in Dead or Alive 6. Although there is no tag team in this franchise, but DOA quest fills the hole somehow. Dead or Alive 6 gameplay is very engaging and character design is cool as always. The customes are less revealing, but there's still too much focus on suggestive customes that is not really needed in this level.

DOA6 is a fun game and a great effort on the part of Koei Tecmo to rebrand their franchise. Overall, they succeeded, however, there are enough tiny flaws here that build up to make this more of a pleasant distraction than a fighting game I'd want to spend lots of time and effort getting good at. Still, enough patch support could make this become a game to second look at in the future.
