Yes, the mechanics were done well, but the repetitive music and the control hiccups had a way of grating on me after a while. The game was enjoyable but just slightly bare. A few more varied musical tracks over the different stages and tightening up of the controls would go a long way here.

Overall, Mechstermination Force is a pretty good title for the Switch. I wish it had full levels like games had in the '90s. It would feel like a much fuller game, and I think people would have a lot more fun. For the very low price of $11.99 USD, you can't go wrong with the purchase of this game. Just be sure all you want to do is play against bosses. Other than that, have lots of fun with this game.

Mechstermination Force took me around six hours to complete, which I feel was just not enough, I can go back and replay the fourteen levels to beat my previous scores, to gain extra medals for taking no damage during the battle or even add another controller so a friend can come to play with me and have some fun with local play, I feel they could have added a few other modes for it to give extra options of gameplay, maybe even online so you can play as the enemy rather than the hero would be awesome! I enjoyed this game so much and I’m excited to see what other games Hörberg Productions come up with! despite what I feel is a pretty short campaign I’m going to award the Mechstermination Force the Thumb Culture Gold Thumb!

Though the difficulty may be a deterrent to some, Mechstermination Force's terrific core mechanics make trying (and dying) worth the effort.

Mechstermination Force is the love child of Contra and Shadow of the Colossus, brought up by loving parents and nurtured into a well-designed experience. The gameplay may throw some people off, with its steep level of difficulty and almost rogue-lite mechanics where you must play to pay for a way to win the day. The visuals are really bright and vibrant, despite the main focus here being ginormous invading robots from another planet who are causing havoc upon the world. As far as Boss-Rush games go, Mechstermination Force sits up there with the best this generation.

I feel that if there was a bit more content and if the waves were more consistent with the difficulty of their bosses, then this game could have been something truly amazing, but as it stands right now, it’s just a good little action game with little else to note.

By the time the credits rolled, I had spent about 4 and a half hours and gotten 80+ deaths in Mechstermination Force. While I rather enjoyed it overall, there were some features that held it back from perfection. And also, though the final boss is beyond epic, it too suffered from the same complaints I had about earlier battles. But for the base package, I feel you get a lot for your money. My main frustration is that once it’s over, there’s nothing left to do, other than trying to beat the bosses without taking damage to acquire medals. Thankfully I’m not quite that masochistic, so I think I’ll pass. That said, for $11.99 it’s easy to recommend to fans of hardcore games, though I can’t say the same applies to those who identify as more casual gamers. But if you love giant robots and are up for a challenge, Mechstermination Force is the game for you!
