Resident Evil 3 is a game that starts off with one hell of a first impression; a bigger, badder villain, a great opening level, and an intriguing story all work together to set a high standard for the rest of the game, but try as it might, the rest of the game fails to ever reach that standard, resulting in a final product that feels like an empty, undercooked Jill Sandwich for which you paid sixty dollars.

Both the Nemesis and Raccoon City are massively underused in this disappointing step back for the series.

Capcom's priorities seem to have very quickly changed after Resident Evil 2 Remake, which despite its issues, was more aware of what it had to achieve and why.

This remake of Resident Evil 3 is a different experience than I expected, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly disappointed. While I had fun playing, I'd hoped for an interconnected city with a constant threat breathing down my neck. Instead, I got discrete levels with a threat that only occasionally showed up for set-piece moments.

It seems like Capcom gave the Resident Evil 3 Remake the short end of the stick.

The remake of Resident Evil 3 struggles to get out from under its older sibling's formidable shadow, with clumsier gunplay, diminished replay value, and excessive reliance on quick-time events to move the story forward.

The long awaited remake of the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is here, but it fails to deliver the tense and scary atmosphere of the original game in every way. A lot of content has been cut, and new Nemesis is just a scripted clown rather than bloodthirsty killer.

This is an enjoyable single-player adventure with some impressive set-pieces and beautiful cutscenes. There are even some butt-clenching moments that are genuinely exhilarating, but the overall package is much to meager. If this was a Resident Evil movie, it would easily be the best one.

It’s hard to shake the feeling that most of the Nemesis encounters and big action beats highlight the limitations of the simple and somewhat dated classic Resident Evil design of the first few entries in the series.

Resident Evil 3 is a solid remake that aptly pays homage to the original RE3 by failing to live up to its immediate predecessor. While the core gameplay remains strong, with engaging gun controls and a new dodge mechanic that very much feels at home, Raccoon City itself feels disappointingly constrained and its star performer, the Nemesis, has been relegated to scripted sequences. The cloud-related hiccups we encountered here serve as a reminder that the technology is far from perfect, but even if it were, Resident Evil 3 is far from essential. We'd recommend it for the most passionate fans of Capcom's survival horror franchise who are after another quick fix; everyone else should start with - and probably stick with - RE2.

The element of fear that Resident Evil is known for isn't as fully baked into the mechanics of this remake as it could have.

It’s still worth playing, but Resident Evil 3 Remake is a step backwards for Capcom, coming off the back of one of the best games of last year. It’s gorgeous to look at, the jump scares will get you, and it’s like stepping into a comfy pair of slippers. But even though your feet are cosy, it never feels like home.

The remake of Resident Evil 3 makes a strong first impression, and its online companion game Resistance has some interesting ideas, but they both struggle to follow through.

Resident Evil 2 set the standard for videogame remakes in 2019. Resident Evil 3 should serve as a cautionary tale for the pitfalls of videogame remakes in 2020.

The game is more of a great addition to the Resident Evil 2 remake because of how short the game is, how shallow the story is and how it doesn't include all the story details from the original game, but it presented noticeable improvements in terms of graphics and sounds while attainting the exquisite gameplay style that was present in RE2 Remake, the main villain is a huge factor in why the game should be in your collection, but not for its full price.

As a rental and a possible £25/£30 title, Resi 3 is well worth your time and although limited in scope, is an enjoyable enough experience to blast through. It’s not perfect but much like Nemesis itself, the Resident Evil 3 remake wants you to beat it again and again and again. After a while though, this becomes tiresome and it’s unlikely you’ll return to this one in a hurry when you’re done with it.

No matter how you look at it, Resident Evil 3 is a stark fall from grace for Capcom. With the developer firing on all cylinders ever since the return-to-form release of Resident Evil 7, this is the company’s first blunder in years.
