Toodee and Topdee Reviews
Overall, Toodee and Topdee is fantastically imaginative puzzle game with exceptional variety wrung out of its core conceit. It struggles most when it asks for dynamic execution of puzzle solutions, but even then it’s pretty decent. This side-on / top-down puzzler is one that other games should look up to.
Toodee and Topdee is a fun, challenging game with an original concept. Change your perspective from 2D, to Top-Down with the press of a button, solve puzzles and defeat awesome bosses. Highly recommended for the player that loves puzzle games.
2D platforming meets top-down puzzling in an amusingly challenging and sometimes frustrating game.
'It's a little quirky and odd. That's what makes it special though.'
I would never have thought I'd actually end up caring for our two little heroes, or even the glitch character they often run into.
2D, or top-down? This perplexing puzzler asks: why not both? Save the universe from chaos and collapse with the help of Toodee and Topdee, switching between their perspectives to solve puzzles, take out powerful bosses, and find the missing Semicolon.
While the initial concept appears simple on the surface, the end result is anything but. By uniquely combining two staples in the gaming pantheon, dietzribi impacted both the indie scene and the puzzle genre as a whole.
A fun mix of 2D and 3D platforming
Toodee and Topdee is an interesting twist that blends two classic platforming perspectives to create clever and enjoyable puzzles. The same adjectives hold true for the story, which gives narrative context with its amusing, metalinguistic dialogue. Most of the time the active participation of the duo is well balanced, although this isn't always the case. I recommend the cooperative mode, but this game can also be fully appreciated by those who will play it solo.

Toodee and Topdee delivers on the promise of its brilliant concept. It can be a little hard to wrap your mind around, but once you start thinking in 2D/top-down hybrid design, the puzzles are a delight and if you get stumped, you can make use of the assist options. This is a remarkable puzzle platformer on Switch that stands out from the crowd.
Toodee and Topdee could have been something truly essential if the developers had have funnelled the creative energy that they put into the puzzles and mechanics into some other areas of game design, too. Unfortunately, the game doesn't have the personality, aesthetics or energy to stand toe-to-toe with the big guns. But the puzzles themselves show a confident understanding of good design and creativity. Ultimately that is the most important thing for a puzzle game, so hopefully, the developers get the chance to revisit what they've done here with a slightly broader vision. This team clearly has talent in spades.
Toodee and Topdee is a brilliant puzzle platformer that joins Tandem: A Tale of Shadows in a unique genre that I'd like to see more of.
Toodee and Topdee is a unique game that actually does almost everything right in its simplicity. It's nice that you can go both co-op and alone in the many levels of the game. In terms of replay value, you may not be able to finish the game again, but if you want you can also try to collect all the ladybugs that walk through the levels. Each chapter brings its new features, including blocks that fall down, or buttons that bring up or remove certain platforms. The bosses are also quite challenging, but by adjusting the difficulty you can still overcome each level quite easily. It is therefore up to the player to determine the balance, although the contrast between those difficulties is quite large.

What I love about indie games is their ability to make sometimes relatively small tweaks on or hybrids of well-known game styles to make something new and compelling...
Toodee and Topdee is simple in a brilliant way, mixing two ideas otherwise basic, but that together compose a very fun adventure filled with creative puzzle platforming challenges. Its protagonists are charismatics and the dialogue between them and the other characters in the game are humorous and metalinguistic. Ever since I saw it for the first time, I've been fascinated by it and avoided a deeper look to avoid spoilers, waiting for a Switch release. Predictably, it didn't disappoint me, and I forward my excitement to anyone who loves a good puzzle, a good platformer and a good mix of genres.

Who would have thought that 2D platformers and top-down puzzlers could go together so well? Toodee and Topdee makes the impossible possible - and impresses with clever puzzles and a unique game idea over about 100 levels.

Honestly, there’s not much of anything I can say negatively about Toodee and Topdee. If you’re looking for something new to play, or if you just want to support an up-and-coming indie team, you owe it to yourself to check this out.
It’s a fun brain teaser with an extremely fun ending and there are enough options so that just about anyone can finish it. I recommend giving it a go.
The 2D Platformer genre is not a newcomer to the gaming scene, of course our Italian plumber friend is a prime example of that. Neither is the Top-Down Puzzler genre, though perhaps not as widespread as the former. So, what can be done to make these genres new and exciting? Merge them together of course!
Toodee and Topdee is a fantastic mash-up of genres that’s not only a quirky idea but one that actually works, and works flawlessly. Describing how the game mechanics work really doesn’t do justice to the actual magic at play here. The fluidity with which you swap between the two characters is everything. It allows for creativity from both the developer and player that otherwise could not exist. The brother developer team dietzribi has created one of the best and creative games of the year!
