FAR: Changing Tides is a fun video game with an enveloping and touching story that improves on the good that had been done in the past with FAR: Lone Sails.

The mystery of this broken world and the wordless, yet varied means by which you explore it makes FAR: Changing Tides an excellent follow-up to Lone Sails. The vessel is incredibly enjoyable to operate and maintain, and the music and world around it make the journey a compelling and satisfying one. It’s not a long game and the adventure arrives at the credits before you know it, but for what it has going, Changing Tides is a compelling and gorgeous puzzle full of satisfying mechanical engagement and incredible breakthrough moments as you sail ever forward.

FAR: Changing Tides is a mysterious, intriguing game. It builds off the inventive mechanics of managing a ship, the adventure you face taking on a vaguely unsettling tone at times. It's also fairly short – I finished it in about five hours – but that means it also doesn't try and stretch out its ideas until it outstays its welcome. This is an original and artistic game that deserves a little appreciation.

Far: Changing Tides isn’t an action-packed roller coaster ride – it’s a contemplative journey that isn’t afraid to slow down and ask you to reflect on your expedition. Of course, this adventure is full of challenges to overcome. But whether I was watching the clouds glide over a flooded city with the wind at my back or white-knuckling through a storm as ten-foot waves bombarded my ship, I was always completely enrapt by the moment. It’s a journey I hope to take again someday.

Picking up roughly where the original FAR left off, and generally offering up a very similar (though longer and refined) experience, Changing Tides doesn’t reinvent the post-Apocalyptic wheel but it also didn’t need to...

Offering puzzles and water everywhere, FAR: Changing Tides is an enjoyable indie to explore on Switch, especially due to its ability to create thought-provoking challenges and deep, peaceful ambience. There are some issues but they don't outshine the fun in progressing and navigating through the adventure's seas. Therefore, this title proves itself inspiring, creative and with a unique gameplay.

FAR: Changing Tides is more concerned with showing a story rather than actually telling one, and it absolutely works out in its favor. Yet again, the series manages to tell an entire story without a single line of dialog. There aren’t many thrilling moments throughout the journey, but the ones we do have are some of the most eye-opening ones that I couldn’t even imagine being possible, even in the last game. There are very few games that allow you to look inward the way the FAR series does. If you’ve played and enjoyed the first game, you owe it yourself to have this game be part of your collection.

Playing Far Changing Tides instills a sense of a long journey to the player more than most games with bigger worlds and more freedom of action.

Simple, poetic, beautiful and non-didactic journey into an (almost) depopulated world.

FAR: Changing Tides has no enemies, leveling, or missions. It's just a beautiful game. It has only you, nature and the ship, which will take almost all of your attention. Well, there are obstacles to overcome. It is ideal for those who like to relax while watching the beautiful views. And for those who spend hours in the garage trying to start their car.

A gentle and meditative story which combines simple platforming puzzles and some basic steam engineering to great effect. Beautifully illustrated and scored, FAR Changing Tides is a joyful experience for patient players who are happy to jump aboard this serene cruise through a flooded but gorgeously bleak post-climate changed world.

FAR: Changing Tides will give you time and space to think of what it means to go through a journey and question your ideas around home and belonging. After you finish it, you will not forget you have played this game. In a good way.

Satisfying sailing in a beautifully soggy apocalypse. I've never felt so connected to a vehicle in a game.

‎At the end of a trip it is normal to ask yourself what was it worth it? The answer is yes, with a more than successful duration so that it does not become repetitive, an entertaining game dynamic and everyone sea to reflect, FAR: Changin Tides is an adventure easily recommended for any type of player. ‎

A wonderfully unique concept, FAR: Changing Tides had me attending to a virtual vessel with the kind of love and focus usually only devoted to the most valued things in life. Its beautiful, handcrafted art direction, stellar soundtrack, approachable yet unapologetic gameplay and phenomenal world will draw you in and refuse to let you go. This is a voyage worth taking, no matter the stormy conditions.

These are nitpicks though. Far: Changing Tides manages to take players on an emotionally engaging journey without a word, with a ship and the seas as your only companions. From beautiful isolation comes an unforgettable experience. If this sounds remotely like something that’s for you, definitely check it out.

I had an enthralling time playing and experiencing an aquatic, post-apocalyptic world in FAR: Changing Tides, and the game shines as an example of true high art in video games. FAR: Changing Tides is a little gem that cannot be missed, it’s a masterfully crafted emotional adventure.

All-in-all, FAR Changing Tides does all the right things you want from a sequel. It makes visible improvements over the first game, while also not overshadowing what that game did brilliantly. On the other hand, those who couldn’t get on with the original’s micromanagement aspects won’t find it to be anymore lenient.

A wonderful experience from the moment you set sail, FAR: Changing Tides builds out the world and gameplay ideas of its predecessor with scale, detail and awesome moments of discovery. Okomotive has started with its original neat mechanic about a left-to-right juggernaut, then taken it in every other direction it could go.
