Splatoon 3 brings improvements to the experience that were still pending in the previous game. Along with this, it brings us some new weapons and character customization features, adding a new card game experience. Not forgetting the fabulous campaign mode that brings together everything that was good about the other entries in the franchise. Even though the game looks like a major upgrade from Splatoon 2, I don't think it's a reason not to buy it, especially if you're looking to play competitively.

Even if I need a bit to wipe the rust off, I know I can fall back and make sure to cover all the spots the sickos left open by the home base and help bring in the wins. And there’s no disgusting wartime propaganda blaring at me on loading screens.

There’s very little wrong with Splatoon 3. Almost everything it does is done well, and the few minor complaints I have are likely to be fixed or involve a card game that most players will likely ignore. Its plethora of quality-of-life changes means this will almost certainly be the best game in the series going forward and the place for new players to jump in. Right now, though, if I have to pick between those quality of life changes or the larger amount of content in Splatoon 2, that’s not as easy a choice as it should be because the gameplay hasn’t evolved in any major way, and little of the new content truly stands out. Which means that while I can easily recommend Splatoon 3 to series devotees desperate for new content and new players needing a good starting point, anyone who falls in between may want to wait for the game to be fleshed out before diving in.

Splatoon 3 is an incredible game that further evolves an awesome twist on the competitive shooter genre. Unfortunately, it’s let down by what is perhaps its most important component, the terrible and limiting online functionality. Luckily, the game is fun enough that I think legging through the exhausting online problems is worth it, and it has an excellent single-player mode to keep you occupied as well. Expressive, vibrant, and endlessly indulgent in its uniqueness, Splatoon 3 is very much a worthy follow-up to its predecessors.

Splatoon 3 isn’t just another sequel — it’s the best version of Nintendo’s boldest franchise in years.

In a world where 2014's Mario Kart 8 is still going strong, on the face of it, it seems hard to justify a third full fat Splatoon game in the same time frame. While it might not be groundbreaking, Splatoon 3 is nonetheless a high watermark for the series, and is a welcome premium product in the era of battle passes and microtransactions.

Splatoon 3 is the best game of the series with its surprisingly good single-player story mode and the online mode, which although it does not offer much innovation, is quite good.

It may be more of the same, but Splatoon 3 is the most refined experience yet!

Splatoon has managed to prove itself to be one of Nintendo's key franchises. Only Nintendo could pull off a non-violent, extremely addictive and fun shooter for the whole family, and Splatoon 3 is the best the series has had to offer so far.

Splatoon 3 is an absolute joy to play. It manages to refine and fix many of the problems found in the previous two games, leading to a highly polished third entry. With continued support and new content, the series looks set to reach new heights, so long as Nintendo are able to fix the connection issues holding it back a little. This is a wonderful game that should keep you coming back for more. At least til Splatoon 4.

But even that remains a step down from the obsessively fun vertical scrolling platform game you could play while waiting for a full game of eight players in the original Splatoon. It feels strange to complain about simply getting more of a good thing, but Splatoon is still a young and creatively fertile series that can do even more, and should. At present, Splatoon 3 is a good game that could very easily evolve into a great one. The single-player campaign is, largely, proof of that. But it’s far too soon for a series this unique to feel like it’s already in “ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mode. Splatoon is one of the coolest things to happen on Nintendo’s platforms in the 21st century. The least it could do is follow its own advice and try to stay fresh.

Slightly underwhelming boss fights aside, then, Splatoon 3’s single-player definitely lived up to expectations, and is once again well worth spending some time with if you can drag yourself away from the multiplayer. It’s also nice to see Nintendo taking Splatoon’s lore admirably seriously; there’s a thoroughly interesting setting here, and it’s cool to see that it’s clearly been thought about in more depth than simply “there’s kids, right, who are also squids”. It’ll certainly be interesting to see where the series goes from here.

Splatoon 3 is a delight. For long-time fans, you know what you're getting. It's more of the (admittedly excellent) same, albeit with tighter mechanics, some welcome balances and a brilliantly overhauled campaign experience. The changes here do not miss, but it could be argued that's because this entry ultimately plays it safe. If you enjoyed the first 2 Splatoon titles, you will love this. If you've never played Splatoon before, you will be absolutely charmed by what's on offer. If you were looking for something wholly different from what's come before… you may be left wanting. Nevertheless, Splatoon 3 is a very, very good shooter whose novelty makes it easy to recommend.

Splatoon 3 is an evolution of the formula, perfecting it and providing it with new elements that allow us to continue expanding the gameplay that is so marked that the saga has. Although there were people who expected that revolution that had characterized other Nintendo sagas (and therefore generated criticism), it is taking control and feeling that, although everything seems to remain the same, there are many details that have been polished to offer the best experience to the player.

With a fun single player campaign and a frenetic online mode, Splatoon 3 easily enters the gallery of the best games in the Switch library, even surpassing its predecessor. So, with the possible arrival of fixes to reduce the connection errors, we can say that the release displays all the glory of the Inklings, Octolings and Mammalians series, appearing as the apex of the shooter franchise that emerged in 2015.

Splatoon 3 isn't quite as novel the third time around, but a great campaign, tons of multiplayer options, and a few new surprises make it much more of a good thing.

Splatoon 3 continues to ride on its ink wave of success thanks to a solid gameplay foundation, with some minor tweaks, extra content, and an improved user experience. Whether or not that's enough, after years of development and another full price tag, will depend on what you're looking to get out of the experience.
