All in all, Super Bomberman R 2 offers a well-stocked online mode, but disappoints in single-player. The pleasure of battles royales or other online options fades when you try to advance in the main story. Fortunately, there's something for everyone, and the game is still very enjoyable. The problem is that 2023 is a year in which several great games have been released, making it harder to justify the purchase of Super Bomberman R 2. Nevertheless, if you're a fan of the genre, you'll enjoy it. For others who are new to the title, you may want to hold out for a discount, or have it offered as part of a subscription service.

Does the Bomberman game mechanic work in an open-world environment? I didn’t feel that it did quite frankly. The Castle mode was just pure chaos as well. I think I am getting old as I really only enjoyed the traditional battle modes. Perhaps it was the nostalgia or the fact that I prefer to play as myself and without a team.

Super Bomberman R2 is an exploding good time, especially if you want to enjoy the multiplayer with friends locally or online. As someone who has enjoyed the series for a while, it’s not my favourite entry in the series, but it still gets so much right. The gameplay is as simple and addictive as ever, whether you are looking to have a quick match or you are looking to top the online leaderboards. I’ll even credit the single player who it at least tries to divert from the series’ familiar formula. For those with time and creativity, you can sink down the rabbit hole of the level editor. Basically, it’s Bomberman, it’s still fun, and I recommend it. Have a blast.

As a celebration of the series' 40th anniversary, Super Bomberman R 2 leaves a feeling of emptiness, feeling like a simple upgrade from its predecessor and that there is still room for evolution in the series. However, the game offers a solid multiplayer experience, especially in local mode, showing once again that this is the great strength of the franchise.

Super Bomberman R 2 excels in delivering a rich multiplayer experience, introducing innovative modes like a 64-player battle royale and Castle mode for strategic base-building. However, the game's single-player story mode falls short, offering repetitive gameplay and a forgettable narrative that doesn't quite ignite the fuse for a compelling solo adventure.

Super Bomberman R2 is a game that you can enjoy if you want to play online or offline party games with your friends. But you shouldn't expect much more.

The diverse modes of the multiplayer battle to enjoy and the infinity of customization options obtained through the in-game coins make Super Bomberman R 2 an excellent choice to spend hours upon hours competing with friends and strangers and unlocking the shop options. Though, despite the additions, the campaign is monotonous and tedious like the first game and Castle modes is much worse than other modes, for those who don't appreciate them, they can be ignored without being a big loss.

Despite its stingers, Super Bomberman R 2 is a solid package featuring a decent selection of characters, modes and maps, and a great level editor whose levels can be taken online and for offline play. Highly recommended for your party game line-up.

Entertaining multi-player game, which is mainly based on that. The story for the single-player is boring and the voice actors don't do the game much good, but fortunately that is rectified by the fun online battles.

Super Bomberman R 2’s best parts are the ones carried over from older games in the series. Messing around with friends in local and online matches is still fun, and if that's all you're interested in, it's a fine enough experience. Unfortunately, that’s a small portion of the game, making it hard to recommend.

Making a good use of the main elements of the franchise in a modern take, Super Bomberman R 2 is a great game. Launching bombs to explode enemies and collect items is still very fun, with cross-play matches and beautiful modern visuals. Players who already know the franchise thanks to the old titles will definitely have a good experience here. Unfortunately, the issue is that it offers little variety in the available game modes. They're good but it feels lacking; in fact, the campaign has little ambition and doesn't offer significant rewards. Besides that, the performance and resource obtaining also affect the game negatively. Nonetheless, it is a good suggestion for your library offering fun and challenge in an uncomplicated fashion.

SUPER BOMBERMAN R 2 is a very fun addition to the Bomberman series, an already very successful and fun series that appears to be getting better with age. While the addition of crossplay can make some matches feel a little unbalanced, and some of the CPU characters are far too easy to beat, the game is a very fun party experience and should always be played with friends if the chance arises.

Super Bomberman R 2 does so many things right, but also just enough wrong to be a bit of a mixed bag. Between the awful Castle Mode, the confusing rotation on multiplayer modes, the clunky UI with limited discoverability and, at times, repetitive story mode, you end up disengaging from the experience just when you’re finding your fun. My favourite moments came when diving into the classic modes, using the new bombers and their abilities, and experimenting with iconic Konami characters. But the game seemed determined to cut me off from that time after time between shoehorning Castle Mode into the story and not letting me play the modes I want, when I want. A frustrating experience.

Super Bomberman R 2 is a fun return to the world of bomb-toting multiplayer madness. It's easy to recommend for the Battle Mode alone, but there's also a solid Story Mode to keep you entertained, despite some design flaws.

Players looking for an interesting single-player experience in SUPER BOMBERMAN R 2 might be disappointed yet again, but online multiplayer is better than ever thanks to the addition of crossplay.

SUPER BOMBERMAN R 2 is a great reboot of a classic game we all know and love. With the same level of great storytelling and chaos, you’ll be thrown head-first into nostalgia while getting to play an old classic on modern terms. When you’re tired of Story Mode, there’s always some good and friendly fun with friends or through matchmaking if you want an interesting challenge as well.

Even for diehard fans, I'd find R 2 to be a difficult recommendation. I may break it out from time to time for a few online matches, but I doubt I'll spend even a fraction of the time I did with Super Bomberman R Online on this latest game. It may just be time to re-invent Bomberman for the modern era, and while I'm eager to see what that might look like, unfortunately for now, your Bomberman is in another castle.

With some excellent new modes, fun collectibles and unlocks, and some of the most well-executed Bomberman gameplay we’ve seen in years, Super Bomberman R 2 is a genuine return to form for the classic franchise. The quality of the new modes is genuinely surprising, and it’s all designed according to the kind of multiplayer that is popular right now. In other words, this represents the best chance the 40-year-old venerable franchise has to find a new generation of fans yet.

For a while there, things weren’t looking so great for Bomberman, one of the most underappreciated gaming mascots out there. But it feels like the weird, little guy’s alive and kicking now, with two retail games within a few years of each other and more. Super Bomberman R 2 isn’t the ultimate Bomberman experience, but it’s a cute, wholesome package of old school, multiplayer videogame glee. Which is weird to say about a game with Pyramid Head in it.
