Atomfall is a departure and a triumph for Rebellion Developments. A showcase of narrative freedom that allows players to discover their own story within a tightly designed puzzle sandbox. While the strict mechanics have been seen before, the depth of the world and strength of the central mystery are the secrets behind Atomfall's true success.

Atomfall is a surprise in all the best ways – it is a dense but enjoyable world to explore with a sense of freedom in every sense of the word. The objective and quest designs feel truly open-ended, inspired by the best aspects of games like Fallout: New Vegas. But despite some friction between the game's action underpinnings and light RPG mechanics, Atomfall is an intriguing, unique and ambitious foray into a new genre for Rebellion, and one I hope to see them continue to dabble in.

Atomfall is a small town mystery, monster battle, folk horror, science fiction quadruple feature. A high degree of freedom lets you choose what kind of adventure you want to have. This hands off approach has some small downsides. But it also leads to an incredibly inventive survival game that offers players boundless possibilities.

Atomfall's satisfying exploration and open-ended narrative design somewhat offsets its surprisingly lean survival and RPG gameplay.

As far as we are concerned, Atomfall is the most brilliant and inventive title to ever come from Rebellion. It's fun, smart, highly replayable and well written, and almost forced us to begin a second run as soon as we completed the first. The combat system is basic, however (expecially lacking in close combat), and the AI routines are limited. A nice try overall, and we hope to see a sequel soon.

I don't think we will see Atomfall in any "best of" lists at the end of the year, but the game nonetheless offers an unexpectedly unique and engaging experience.

Atomfall reminded me why I fell in love with open-world RPGs in the first place, offering the freedom to do what you want, but deal with the consequences of such. It'll be a struggle to survive, but it is worth it all in the end.

The developers from Rebellion have proven that they are not afraid of new challenges, they have crossed the imaginary line and moved their creation into new spheres. Atomfall is a demonstration of precise work, although with certain reserves. In the game you will enjoy solid action and exploration of the unexplored English environment in the shadow of the apocalypse.

Atomfall, at first glance, might be regarded as a Fallout clone, but the truth is it has a clear identity that makes it stand out from the pack of imitators. Its green and lush surroundings give it a unique flair, even if its story is still a bit by the numbers.

Atomfall is a fascinating yet familiar game. The story is mysterious, even if the ending might not be that conclusive. The freedom that lies within is very appealing, as is the predominant use of melee versus firearms. The presentation is fine, and while other elements of the game (like stealth) are flawed, those issues are outweighed by the previously mentioned positives. Atomfall is well worth checking out for those looking for a very different experience.

Atomfall may be one of Rebellion's most different proposals in years, but it delivers a sandbox with investigation in an interesting and fun way. There are technical and some structural problems that are notable, but they do not take away the shine of a game that has everything to please a good portion of players.

Atomfall tries to incorporate a mix of genre staples but ultimately fails to go in-depth into any one aspect save for its investigations. It is trying hard to punch above its weight class. But like every underdog at the beginning of a boxer movie, it is brought back down to reality by its superiors, in this case, the games it takes inspiration from. The game has potential, to be sure, but in its current state, it leaves a lot to be desired. I recommend you wait for a sale before adding this game to your library. Hopefully, Atomfall can mount a comeback with its upcoming DLC story expansion.

Atomfall is a cold fusion of elements that work with design decisions that are not entirely clear. Its British scenarios serve as a backdrop for an adventure that flees from the RPG promising a survival that falls short with some mechanics that feel forced. It is still an enjoyable game but comparisons with the greats of the genre leave a project that could have used a few more months of development.

Atomfall marks a courageous change of direction for Rebellion, offering a fascinating British uchronia with satisfying exploration and effective ranged combat. However, technical shortcomings, deficient AI, and superficial storytelling prevent the title from fully expressing its potential, despite the commendable freedom granted to the player.

Atomfall is an atmospheric, mystery-driven survival game that dares to be different. It’s not the most polished, but it’s one of the most interesting post-apocalyptic games in years. If you enjoy uncovering stories at your own pace and don’t mind a little jank, this one’s worth your time.

Atomfall carves its niche as a competent action-adventure RPG, flawed in gameplay/graphics but redeemed by stellar storytelling. At $50, it’s a worthwhile ride.

It is an incredibly beautiful title from a talented studio that will no doubt run with this and perhaps make future titles along these lines. I loved that the map wasn’t some vast expanse but instead a series of areas that were still large enough to explore, scavenge and experiment throughout. Also, I’ve never played a game where I can crack someone across the back of the head with a cricket bat, call me sadistic if you want, but it was hilarious and satisfying at the same time. Atomfall will nestle amongst one of the most memorable games of 2025 for me and is a must-play, especially if you’re on Xbox Game Pass.

Atomfall is an ambitious and atmospheric survival RPG that delivers a compelling world and intriguing story. Its open-ended exploration and multiple endings make it a rewarding experience for players who enjoy uncovering mysteries at their own pace. However, its combat mechanics, technical issues, and occasional pacing problems hold it back from greatness. For those willing to overlook its flaws, Atomfall offers a unique and immersive adventure. But if you’re looking for polished combat and a more guided experience, you might find its rough edges frustrating.
