On the one hand, Solarpunk is just another generic building sandbox game; on the other hand, however, it undeniably has a unique atmosphere and incredibly relaxing gameplay that can keep you hooked for a good twenty hours—or even more. The game captivates with its aesthetics and stands on very solid foundations. However, considering that there are much larger and more elaborate titles of this type on the market, I don’t really see any reason to return to it regularly. It’s a game worth checking out out of sheer curiosity, but certainly not at its current, rather absurd price.

Solarpunk proves that the future in games doesn’t have to be dark and grim to be interesting. Sometimes, all it takes is a bit of sunshine, lush greenery, and floating islands to create a world you’ll want to return to, even if it can be a little dull at times.

Solarpunk is a solid, cozy, low intensity game, but if you're looking for an adventure that lasts more than a hundred hours, you should probably look somewhere else.

Solarpunk is a solid crafting adventure with overly linear progression that doesn't get enough out of its game world.

If you love painstakingly planning and constructing the ultimate team base, maximizing the energy output of your technology to make beautifully automated machines, or simply basking in the atmosphere of a quiet, peaceful world, you’ll feel right at home with Solarpunk and its rewarding gameplay loop.

Despite all its flaws, Solarpunk is still so captivating that you sometimes lose track of time.

Solarpunk is a fun, cozy survival game where you build, farm, and expand your own island. You always have something to work towards, while you decide for yourself how to spend your time. The tools are sometimes annoying and a bug pops up every now and then, but before you know it, hours have passed.

Solarpunk is definitely something of an acquired taste. Whilst I do wish there was more of a structure to it, I did enjoy just building and exploring at my own pace. Some of the creations I’ve seen online are truly fantastic, and have given me inspiration to return to my various bases and improve their looks! Ultimately, what you get out of Solarpunk relies entirely on the player. Yes, due to the handcrafted worlds, there isn’t an infinite amount to see. But, as I’ve said, not every game needs to be infinitely replayable. This is mechanically rather simple, but still scratches that itch of creating things from bits and bobs. Therefore, Solarpunk receives the ThumbCulture Silver Award!

Solarpunk is one of those games that becomes more fun the more you play it. The first hours might be boring, monotonous, and at times maddening. Resource limitations, manual farming, and a few quality-of-life restrictions could test players' patience. A few bugs and some unfinished elements give the impression that a bit more polish would do the game good.

In spite of its own efforts, Solarpunk winds up smaller than the sum of its parts. A little bit more TLC in the construction of this beautiful world would’ve made it an excellent addition to the genre; in its current state, however, it’s a game only worth it to those seeking an experience that’s (almost) totally devoid of friction.

The first few hours were a typical survival experience, which I always enjoy. Chopping down trees and making sure I don’t get dehydrated; that keeps me busy for a while. Unfortunately, things stalled for me after that; there was simply too much grinding for too little reward.

Solarpunk delivers a fun building and automation experience with interesting ideas, especially airship exploration and progression toward sustainable tech. However, its survival mechanics are very light, making it feel more like a relaxed sandbox than a true survival game. With limited environmental variety and some slow progression, survival fans may find it lacking challenge. Still, it remains enjoyable for players who prefer creativity and exploration over difficulty.

Despite its heavily recycled gameplay loop, Solarpunk kept me engaged thanks to its enjoyable mix of base building, energy management, and resource gathering.

Solarpunk doesn’t capture the spirit of its namesake until far, far later into the game, but it’s at least a relaxing sandbox where you can do pretty much anything you want (as long as it fits within the confines of its cozy game genre). Its best moments come from building alongside friends and watching a small floating island grow into a thriving home. It’s definitely not a game for everyone, especially since it can feel a bit empty at times. However, players who enjoy setting their own goals and taking things at their own pace will find plenty to like among the clouds.

It’s clear to tell that Solarpunk has been created with passion, from every placed flower making the environment look natural, to the sounds of wood crackling in the furnace, from the carefully planned upgrade path, to the numerous building options. In my eyes, Solarpunk is something truly special, containing everything I want from a game: gathering, harvesting, exploring, crafting, building and decorating. There are a few niggles, but they don’t detract from the amazing scenery, the structured gameplay and the sheer enjoyment of creating a dream home, garden and farm.
