God Eater Resurrection is a fun action RPG with a dark atmosphere and story. You’ll also find very deep customization options, fast combat, and a wonderful multiplayer experience. The characters are likable, even if held back by the omission of the original voices. There’s a lot to discover and complete in the game; completing the story mode alone will take upwards of 40 hours and there are scores of additional missions. However, without playmates the game loses a lot of flair and devolves into a harshly repetitive and far less effective romp with one guy, a huge enemy with tons of health and a few sidekicks to revive you if you get knocked out. There is still fun to be had alone, simply not nearly as much.

Perhaps it took a move to the home consoles and a years-delayed retouch, but God Eater Resurrection shines as a less demanding, flashier alternative to the likes of Monster Hunter. It'll never ask for the same depth of dedication, but it doesn't try to, and in (not) doing so, manages to prove that being the "diet" version of something isn't always a bad thing.

God Eater Resurrection may not be a must-have game, but seeing that its genre isn’t over-saturated allows it to stand firmly on its own. Whether you’re returning from the PSP game or are just looking for a new Monster Hunter-esque fix, this game will definitely scratch the hunting itch for you.

The PlayStation brand has something special in God Eater Resurrection, and developing the franchise even more would be a godsend. With little holding it back, Resurrection makes a strong statement on how the hunter genre should be.

Released in Japan last October, God Eater Resurrection has given back to the original game the popularity it deserved. To this day is undoubtedly the best alternative to Monster Hunter.

God Eater Resurrection updates the series original with new weapons and combat that brings it more up to speed with today’s times. The stylized visuals will be a hit for folks who love Japanese anime and the more accessible gameplay makes it friendly for newcomers to the genre. While some will say that it has more style than Monster Hunter, however, this enhancement to what is essentially a five-year old game doesn’t quite have the same substance as newer entries in Capcom’s more popular hunting series. That being said, it’s still a solid game.

All in all, God Eater Resurrection is a solid game, fun and showing a surprising amount of depth in both its story and mechanics. If you’ve been looking for a good monster hunting experience and don’t have a Nintendo 3DS, this is definitely a game you’ll want to check out.

God Eater Resurrection is a fun 40-hour experience that keeps you going with its gameplay mechanics and customization. The dark story falls flat at points, with the gameplay saving this game from a lackluster story. While the lore of the world is interesting, dull voice-acting sucks away the narrative’s emotional points making cutscenes a chore to watch. Gameplay is the only reason for you to pick up God Eater Resurrection, as the story is unconvincing and fails to provide a compelling hook for you to keep going.

While it can't escape looking like a 5-year old game, this enhanced remake is one hell of a package at a low price.

If there was one word that could accurately define God Eater Resurrection, it would be “uneven”. The concept and the combat both give it a unique identity over Monster Hunter, and could lend itself to great things that help make it stand out. But the amateurish story direction and outdated control schemes hinder its chances to emerge from the shadow of Capcom’s multimillion dollar franchise.

To make a long story short, I think God Eater is a good game and definitely one that any monster hunting fan should look into. For only $20, the game is practically a steal to hold you over until August when God Eater 2 comes out.

The God Eater franchise is massive in Japan and it's easy to see why. Those looking for a more dynamic and story-driven hunting game may very well find exactly what they are looking for right here with Bandai Namco's God Eater: Resurrection. The flaws associated with its aged original release are more than made up for by the ground-up overhaul. This is without a doubt a fantastic and fun hunting series that hopefully spawns a lot more releases further into the future.

God Eater: Resurrection is a very fun hunting game, though it's not perfect. It's great that there is another alternative to the Monster Hunter formula available to us, though. Between this, and Koei Tecmo's rising Toukiden franchise, it's proving to be a really good period for this little genre.
