State of Decay 2 Reviews
When lined up with its predecessor in their respective years of release, SoD2 just doesn’t capture the imagination in the same way but is still worth playing
State of Decay 2 is just a better version of the first State of Decay game, but it has plenty of technical issues. For zombie fans, it's still good game.

What it really comes down to for State of Decay 2 is that unless you like games with slow resource gathering grinds, and don’t mind an odd bug here or there, this game isn’t going to be for you. The multiplayer can be enjoyable with friends, but at the end of the day, it just barely sets itself above the previous game in the series.
A promising and fun game let down by a myriad of technical issues.
Despite these shortcomings, I could easily put another 100 hours into the game without issue, especially once I can team up with close friends. If you liked the original State of Decay, you'll enjoy the second one too, but temper your excitement somewhat if you expected a radical upgrade.
State of Decay 2 is pretty much the same as the first game from five years ago, with some fixes and tweaks here and there. It is still an interesting blend of zombie survival action and social management simulator. But after five years we expected something more.

State of Decay 2 is another example of a game brimming with potential that ends up feeling bloated. It could have worked a lot better with a more polished experience but right now it appears to be all over the place with a focus on quantity rather than quality.
State of Decay 2 is an immersive and mechanically interesting zombie-survival gameplay experience - whenever the bugs aren't plaguing player progress.
Gruesome and fun zombie-apocalypse survival, but also bug-ridden and poorly optimised.
State of Decay 2 is a fun and challenging survival experience that suffers due to repetition and a questionable technical performance
State of Decay 2 has a dozen of bugs, a boring start, bad optimization and a repetitive gameplay. Against all odds, the gameplay offered by the game sucked me into the world of Zombie apocalypse and I want to play it more and more. It has this "spark" that makes you keep playing the game – a cool atmosphere, satisfying combat and sense of accomplishment that comes from every performed action. It is a Zombie-Survival-Gothic.

It seems like Undead Labs did not get a memo that survival zombie games are not popular anymore. Still, State of Decay 2 can be fun for several hours before it will bore you to death.

State of Decay 2 is just as good as the original but fails to make good on its major promises. There's some great quality of life improvements here and there, but the repetitive goals to work towards and cursory co-op options stop it from being any better than the original. Despite all this, State of Decay 2's gameplay loop is strangely alluring, but many won't put up with its technical shortcomings.
Game-mechanically interesting, but dramatically pale hybrid of survival horror and RPG for (multi) players with a passion for collecting things.

An improvement on the original, and with far more variety on offer, but State of Decay 2 suffers from repetitive combat and poor player communication throughout. Fans of survival sims will likely appreciate the greater attention to detail and increased demands when it comes to sustaining your communities, but for more casual players the constant need to find dozens of items or resources just to keep everything ticking over will just annoy, the longer you go on.
I had a lot of fun with State of Decay 2… when it was all working. Its core gameplay loop is repetitive, but there's a sense of satisfaction in seeing your community move from a small base with no water and power to a dominant force in the town capable of sustaining itself on its own that kept driving me forward.
State of Decay 2 is a nice game and it looks good, but it has a considerable amount of errors that take away much of its brightness. It is nice that the events that happen within your game are a consequence of the actions of each player, giving that feeling that each of their actions is unrepeatable. Spending most of the game looking for resources in coolers, kitchens, farms and other places, is annoying and takes away much of the fun that can be the game becoming a slow and repetitive activity.

State of Decay 2 feels like a pretty run-of-the-mill sequel. It packs in more while refining less.
